Lyttelton Main School was established in 1875, just 25 years after Christchurch was founded. The original school had over 800 pupils.

Each year pupils enjoy a full and varied experience including a cultural exchange with Japanese students, French lessons, music lessons, school camp, ski trip for years 7 and 8, sailing, dance, sport, participation in science competition and many other exciting and imaginative activities.

The school has a healthy eating policy, teaching children about the importance of chosing to eat well. This means no fatty or sugary food are available at the school or welcomed.

Children start the day with exercise and are regularly introduced to new sports and are encouraged to participate.

Lyttelton Main is an Enviro school.
